Nirvana haven?t been active as a band since frontman Kurt Cobain?s suicide in 1994, but that won?t keep them from having a major sales presence this holiday season. Nirvana?s debut album, Bleach, had already been scheduled for a November 3 re-release, and now it?s been announced that Nirvana Live at Reading will be coming out the same day.
Reading chronicles the band?s now-mythic performance at the Reading Festival on August 30, 1992. Nevermind had made them superstars, and the U.K. festival show drew heavily from that album, as well as featuring songs from the follow-up, In Utero. Nirvana fans will have the option of buying the package as a CD, DVD or a CD-and-DVD set.
If you?re getting the sense that November 3 is going to be Nirvana Day at your local record store, you don?t know the half of it. Dave Grohl, the Foo Fighters frontman and Nirvana?s former drummer, will also be getting into the act that day, releasing a Foo greatest-hits package.

Noel Gallagher, the principal songwriter and guitarist for Oasis, has announced that he?s leaving the band.
?It?s with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight,? Gallagher wrote on the band?s website. ?People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer.?
Liam is his brother Liam Gallagher, the band?s lead singer. The brothers formed Oasis in the early ?90s, becoming international superstars with albums like Definitely Maybe and (What?s the Story) Morning Glory? But even during the best of times, the brothers were known for their contentious relationship.
Tensions within Oasis are nothing new, but there have been warning signs in recent months of escalating tension. In April, Noel mentioned that he wanted to spend time focusing on his first solo record rather than write the follow-up to the band?s 2008 album, Dig Out Your Soul. Then this week, Oasis cancelled two festival shows, and NME reported that the Gallagher brothers had gotten into a dustup right before one of the shows, with Liam reportedly breaking Noel?s guitar.
Because of the band?s reputation for being attention-seeking hotheads, it?s hard to know if there will be an eventual reconciliation between the two men. But for now, Oasis have lost their creative linchpin.

Ian Anderson is about as far removed from a typical rock star as one can imagine. The frontman for the venerable Jethro Tull could easily be characterized as a businessman or accountant as well. It’s clear he’s nobody’s fool, and at the same time, someone who cares about the group’s fans, personally deciding the price [...]

Foo Fighters dropped hints in early July that they?d be putting out their first greatest-hits record this year, and now we know the compilation?s title and release date. Foo Fighters Greatest Hits will hit stores November 3.
The full track list hasn?t been announced yet, but well-known favorites ?The Pretender,? ?All My Life,? ?Learn to Fly,? ?Best of You,? ?Times Like These,? and ?My Hero? will be included, as will two new songs: ?Wheels? and ?Word Forward.?
Foo frontman Dave Grohl has been busier this year with his side project, the supergroup Them Crooked Vultures, than with his day-job band. Almost a year ago, Grohl gave a radio interview in which he proclaimed that Foo Fighters were going to take ?a long break,? although more recently drummer Taylor Hawkins hinted that the band members might start working on ideas for a new record this summer. With Them Crooked Vultures taking most of Grohl?s time at the moment, however, it seems unlikely that a new Foo studio album will be coming any time soon.
